MAHKOCHE KIN: THE LAND

August 25, 2023 @ 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Facilitated by the Museum Team and led by Darrell Red Cloud, an artist and faculty member at Oglala Lakota College, Mahkoche Kin provides an educational experience for visitors, shedding light on the reasons behind the presence of Crazy Horse Memorial® in the Black Hills and its significance to the neighboring tribal communities.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to explore the Black Hills from a Native perspective, delving into the cultural wisdom upheld by the Lakota People, and venturing “off the beaten path.”

Mahkoche Kin involves a leisurely to moderately paced 1.5-hour outdoor stroll, featuring three designated stops for informative presentations and engaging hands-on activities. While not a conventional hike, the program does cover mildly challenging and uneven terrain. To ensure comfort and safety, it is advisable to wear closed-toed shoes and pants during the experience.
