[Matinee] The Revolutionists at the Performing Arts Center

November 12, 2023 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Black Hills Community continues its 56th Season with The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson. During the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, former queen Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, and try to beat back the extremist insanity. This irreverent comedy explores violence and legacy, art and activism and how we actually go about changing the world. It’s a true story – or total fiction – and a raucous resurrection of four powerful women.

The Revolutionists is directed by BHCT Artistic Director Merlyn Q. Sell, whose previous BHCT directing credits include Average Family, Julius Caesar, Sense and Sensibility, Macbeth and Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage. About the show, Sell says, “It’s rare to find a script that can simultaneously make you laugh out loud and break your heart, but this play and this cast make it happen.” The cast of powerful women includes Carrie McIntyre as Olympe, Anna Auchampach as Charlotte, Franny Myers as Marie Antoinette and Kherdine Weber as Marianne. This production contains adult language.

Black Hills Community Theatre (BHCT) produces five Mainstage shows, two youth productions, an annual Dinner Theatre Fundraiser, a Play Reading Series, plus workshops, special events and summer theater camps. The mission of BHCT is to inspire, entertain, and educate the Black Hills community through quality theatre with a vision to be an inclusive and diverse community of people pursuing excellence in the theatre arts.
