HISTORY ON THE LAWN: OLD WEST SHOWDOWN

August 18, 2023 @ 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Two books, “Old West Showdown” and its sequel “Standoff at High Noon,” have been co-written by authors Kellen Cutsforth and Bill Markley, focusing on ten controversial stories from the Old West. These authors, for the first time, will engage in a live debate in front of an audience, exploring intriguing topics such as the true identity of Calamity Jane, the circumstances surrounding Wild Bill Hickok’s death, and whether Jack McCall was motivated by personal humiliation or acted as a paid assassin. Additionally, they will discuss whether Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer’s defeat at Little Big Horn resulted from miscalculations on his part or if Captain Frederick Benteen’s alleged disobedience and Major Marcus Reno’s supposed intoxication played a role. If time allows, they will delve into other subjects covered in their books. Don’t miss this exciting event taking place at the Historic Adams House lawn at 12:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch and a chair. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members. In case of inclement weather, the lecture will be relocated to the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center (HARCC).
