|Recurring Event (See all)

Black Hills Community continues its 55 th Season by bringing everyone’s favorite ogre to Rapid City. Shrek: The Musical, with music by Tony Award Winner Jeanine Tesori, and book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize Winner David Lindsay-Abaire, is the stage adaptation of the 2001 Dreamworks animated film. Not all heroes wear capes! In fact, sometimes they are giant green ogres with a donkey sidekick.

Join Shrek and the whole crew as he saves his home (the very comfy swamp) from the greedy Lord Farquaad by travelling great distances, rescuing a spirited princess, and winning over a short-tempered noble all while finding his own perfect Happily Ever After. Shrek is directed by Ryan Puffer. Puffer has previously directed Lend Me a Tenor, Matilda and several staged readings for BHCT. The artistic team also includes Assistant Director Kristol McKie, Choreographer Sara Olivier, Vocal Director Molly Dailey and Conductor Colton Schaefer. The cast of local actors features Blake Benson as Shrek, Kaitlin Buchholz as Princess Fiona, Matthew Vidal as Lord Farquaad and Jonasia Nance as Donkey. The rest of the cast includes Anna Auchampach, Kassi Blue-Scates, Liam Blue-Scates, Jakob Enzminger, Alexis Evon, Caitlyn Ford, Cierra Hall, Caroline Haugo, Kenneth Hedden, Lynne Mazzone Olness, Angela Miller, Peyton Nelson, Henry Olivier, Olivia Perli, Devorah Phelps, Elora Randle, James Randle, Jessie Sewell, Jack Stevens, Penelope Stevens, Kamron Ward, Delaney White, Asher Wilkening and Isla Woodruff.

Black Hills Community Theatre (BHCT) typically produces five Mainstage shows, two youth productions, an annual Dinner Theatre Fundraiser, a Play Reading Series, plus workshops, special events and summer theater camps. The mission of BHCT is to inspire, entertain, and educate the Black Hills community through quality theatre with a vision to be an inclusive and diverse community of people pursuing excellence in the theatre arts.
